The rear wing on an evo is an iconic design element of every generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. And since I am in the United States, the focus of this video will be on the EVO 8 and 9 wing. In this video I will discuss the differences between the evo 8 and 9 wing, go over the removal and install procedures, take a look inside the wing endplates and discuss the common clear coat peeling issue the evo wing is notoriously known for.

First we’ll cover how to remove an evo 8 or 9 wing.
Step one is to open your trunk.
Step two is to remove the rubber stoppers that are on each side of the trunk. They should just spring out. You may want to count the number of turns so you can get it close to the same position once you put them back in.

The Evo8 has a strong rear wing than the evo9. See the evo 9 rear wing has plastic inner side pieces while all the evo 8’s have carbon fiber inner side pieces. (another good way to tell an evo 8 from an evo9) Also, the evo 8 wings center section is filled with an expansion foam of some kind while the 9 wing is empty inside.
