Banks want privacy for internal transactions, public rails for external settlement.

Corda is a private distributed ledger. Banks use it for transactions they want to keep confidential - internal transfers, customer account updates, trade settlements between known counterparties. Everything stays within their controlled network.

But Corda networks are isolated. Bank A's Corda can't directly talk to Bank B's Corda without some bridge. That's where public ledgers could fit - neutral settlement layer between separate private networks.

XRP (or any public blockchain) provides that bridge. Both banks agree on a transaction, XRP settles it instantly and transparently, neither bank has to trust the other's internal systems. The public ledger becomes the referee between private networks.

This makes sense architecturally. Private for confidential business, public for neutral settlement. Whether banks actually adopt this model versus building their own interbank settlement that doesn't use public crypto is the open question.

XRP's speed and cost work for this use case. But banks might prefer SWIFT upgrades, central bank digital currencies, or consortium solutions they control. Public blockchain adds complexity and regulatory uncertainty they might not want.

The technical fit is real. Corda + XRP could work exactly as described. But "could work" and "will be adopted" are different. Banks are conservative and prefer solutions they control or that have government backing.
Watch for actual implementations beyond pilots. That's what proves the model works in practice, not just theory.
