In the 3rd Annual Dorothy Pearson Lecture on "Equity and Social Justice," Dr. Walters, Professor, University of Washington School of Social Work and Director, Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, speaks about the concept of historical trauma: how effects from a traumatic event experienced by a community can persist across generations. Dr. Walters presents two research projects with innovative approaches to historical trauma and health equity research.

A member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Dr. Walters is known internationally for her research on the historical, social and cultural determinants of physical and mental health among American Indians and Alaska Natives.
