Inter Milan vs AC Milan : Champions League semi-final 2022-23 (same stadium: Sani siro)

Less than a week on from their first-leg derby delight, Inter Milan aim to finish the job against city rivals AC Milan when the teams reconvene at San Siro on Tuesday.

After Inter stormed to a two-goal lead in the clubs' Champions League semi-final clash, the fifth and final Derby della Madonnina of the season decides whether it will be the Nerazzurri or Rossoneri half of Italy's second city that journeys on to next month's final.

Inter Milan were the form team coming into the first leg of the Champions League semi-final and they needed just over ten minutes to take charge of the tie against a stunned AC Milan.

Goals from experienced duo Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the seventh and 11th minutes earned Inter a 2-0 win in what was, nominally at least, the away leg at San Siro.

Both sides also hit the woodwork in a compelling contest, but Milan mustered just two shots on target and, after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Serie A strugglers Spezia, they will need a special performance if they are to deny Inter a place in the final.

Team news
Inter boss Simone Inzaghi may stick with the same team who started last week's first leg, although Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku are top-class options if he decides to freshen things up.

For AC Milan, all eyes are on Portugal winger Rafael Leao, who missed the first leg through injury.

He did not feature against Spezia at the weekend but he is a key part of Milan's attacking unit and coach Stefano Pioli will be desperate to get him on the park.

Ismael Bennacer, who scored the first-leg winner against Napoli in the quarter-finals, is injured and veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not in the Champions League squad.

Why did Inter split from AC Milan to create rivalry? Milan won the league three times within the first ten years of their formation, but they started to lose members in 1907 after the Italian Football Federation introduced a rule which prevented teams from adding anymore foreign players.
