How to Make a Coffee Mug… The Hard Way

No worries, the mug is just fine. And my finger barely needed a bandaid.


If you decide to start a woodworking project similar to this one I strongly recommend using a softer wood. I spent 5+ hours sawing and another 2 chiseling and finishing.

The bands of sandpaper I use here really are the secret. I learned this from my time wood carving sculptures. The sandpaper makes shaping more uniform and even. Use narrow strips to work on specific bumps or dents and wide strips for blending and evening out wider areas.

Once this mug soaks up a few more coats of the finishing oil it’ll be ready for use!
