Today was hive maintenance day. Despite my best efforts, I left the girls' home a mess and they let me know it!

Because it was another cold morning, I spent a few hours building some 2-frame breeding nucs. I wrapped that up about noon, when it was warm enough to start working on the hives.

I did a good search through each hive, looking for the queen; unfortunately, my old eyes aren't great at that and I only managed to spot the queen only about 50% of the time.

In one hive, I tried reversing the brood boxes...a new technique to me. I tried to minimize disruption otherwise.

But in the hive in the video, one of my more productive hives, I pulled two frames of bees and brood, and two frames of stored honey and nectar, in order to fill two of the new nucs. Unfortunately, THAT was a significant disruption!
