Cross Country Train Fleet/Rolling Stock. Arriva Cross Country Trains (XC) is a train operating company in Great Britain with routes centred on the West Midlands at Birmingham New Street station. Cross Country operate 4 main long distance routes which are Edinburgh to Plymouth, Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth, Newcastle to Reading and Manchester Piccadilly to Bristol Temple Meads. These routes have limited extensions to stations like Paignton, Penzance, Glasgow Central and Aberdeen. XC also have regional routes from Nottingham to Cardiff Central and Birmingham New Street to Stansted Airport. All XC routes serve Birmingham New Street.

XC currently operates 3 main types of train. They operate 3 classes of class 170 Turbostar which are used on the regional routes. These trains are formed of 2 and 3 carriages with 2+2 seating in standard and 2+1 in the small first class section. XC operate Voyager/Super Voyager trains as class 220 and class 221 the 220 are 4 carriage units and the class 221 a mix of 4 and 5 carriage trains. Both these trains have the same interior with 2+2 seating in standard and 2+1 in first. XC also currently operate High Speed Train (HST) locomotive hauled trains with class 43 Intercity 125 locomotives and refurbished Mark 3 carriages. These are operated as 2+7 carriage formations with 2 first and 5 standard class carriages and are used on certain Edinburgh to Plymouth services.

In the current Cross Country franchise there are no trains that have left the operator. There are currently no confirmed plans for additional rolling stock for XC and the HST sets will be leaving the operator. There are unconfirmed proposals for XC to get the class 221 from Avanti West Coast once the class 805 and class 807 enter service as well as an option for the class 222 Meridian with East Midlands Railway to be used once the class 810 are introduced however it may be that non of these options go ahead for Cross Country.

The train fleet information is correct as of March 2023 and future train fleet dates are based for the planned introduction for passenger services. Past Train Fleet is based on when the current Cross Country franchise has been in operation.
