(16 Jan 2015) Indonesian officials said on Friday they had identified a further body from the AirAsia plane crash, bringing the number of bodies identified to 40.
Dr Budi Yono from the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team told reporters at a news conference that eight more bodies were in the hospital in Surabaya awaiting identification.
Six were men and two women, he said.
Three further bodies have also been located and they will be transported to Surabaya on Saturday, bringing the number of bodies discovered to 51, officials said.
The bodies that have been identified will be returned to their families for burial.
The DVI team consists of forensic experts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
One hundred and sixty two people were on board Air Asia flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore when the plane crashed in the Java Sea on 28 December.
