Fuzzy Drive/Preamp Shootout | Benson preamp, Hudson broadcast, SS/BS mini, and Walrus 385

Описание к видео Fuzzy Drive/Preamp Shootout | Benson preamp, Hudson broadcast, SS/BS mini, and Walrus 385

I’ve always loved the fuzzy amp exploding/console sorta sound, and over time I’ve accumulated a few pedals that I think do a pretty good job at that, so I thought it’s finally time to do a little video comparison to see how they fare against each other!
Personal thoughts:
The broadcast does the "console" distortion/fuzz best. The preamp does a really nice medium gain bassy console-like sound, but overall it's more tweed-like than console-like. The mini is most comparable to the broadcast, however without the nice midrange - has a tendency to be mushy where the broadcast isn't. The 385 is more like a melding of the preamp and broadcast - has traits from both (the amp-like response from the preamp, the raunchy/fuzziness of the broadcast), but doesn't hit on the same extremes (however, it can sound absolutely nasty/trashy in a way the others can't).

Gear: Fender 2012 American standard strat, Vox AC15 (normal channel), other pedals used were the Boss BD-2 and EQD ghost ehco

Background is from The Triplets of Belleville (2003)
