Founded in 1981 by Patti Astor and Bill Sterling, FUN Gallery gained notoriety for being the first gallery to give graffiti writers one-man shows, and bring the New York underground art scene to the forefront of the mainstream art world. Among the influential and siginificant artists to be showcased in FUN Gallery were Jean-Michel Basquiat, Futura, Kiely Jenkins Zephyr of the Zoo York crew, Fred Brathwaite, Fab 5 Freddy, Keith Haring, Dondi White, Lee Quinones, and Kenny Scharf. In this video by Anita Rosenberg, Astor tours MOCA's groundbreaking Art In The Streets show (2011), giving viewers a chance to see it again, and to hear the history of the Fun Gallery and anecdotes about its artists from the co-founder herself.
