National Parks are one of the Protected Area Networks declared by the government to conserve natural vegetation and wildlife. National Parks also conserve biodiversity.
National Parks can be declared by Central Government or the state governments.
Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is the first national park in India.
Hemis National Park in Ladakh is the largest national park in India, where as South Button Island National Park in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the smallest National Park in India.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands lie at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Bay of Bengal lies west of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea lies east of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are divided into two groups, Andaman group and Nicobar Group.
The important islands in Andaman group are North Andaman Island, Middle Andaman Island, South Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island.
The important islands in Nicobar group are Car Nicobar, Little Nicobar and Great Nicobar.
The Coco Channel divides Coco Islands, Myanmar and North Andaman Island.
Duncan Pass divides South Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island.
The Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands are separated by 10° N parallel (Ten Degree Channel).
The Great Channel divides Great Nicobar Island from Island of Sumatra, Indonesian Archipelago.
