we train lots of sheepdogs to work sheep. sometimes we train dogs to work cattle or herd cattle. border collies are great at working sheep but sometimes a good dog can be a bit tight on its flanks or a bit tight on its outrun for sheep.
for sheepdog trials a herding dog needs to have good flanks and a good outrun. for alot of dogs the outrun must be trained. the dog needs to be open at the top of the field on his sheep so as not to disturb them. this video talks about how we teach a dog to outrun correctly
