Amir Laïque was born in Pakistan and immigrated to California at the age of ten. The stark contrast in culture played a pivotal role in his development and perceptions of the world.

He attended UC San Diego to major in psychology and quickly found this was the field for him. After graduation, Amir took an internship in the emergency department at Kaiser Permanente to study the mind in crisis. Concurrently, he interned at a mental health clinic to familiarize himself with long-term therapy and the value of team-based approaches to mental health.

After completing these internships he sought more clinical experience and went on to work with children with autism in developing psychosocial treatment plans. He also took a position as a mental health specialist at a psychiatric facility, where he was eventually able to facilitate groups on topics such as positive self-talk, relapse prevention and self-advocacy. These experiences assisted Amir in deciding to pursue higher education.

Now he has acquired his master's in clinical psychology and has a deep understanding of the values and beliefs we hold here at NDNU. He exemplifies these values by being community-oriented and personifying diversity. He started this program with a singular goal of creating a strong foundation of research and proactive to build upon future endeavors.

He has been a valuable part of our program and we wish him well as he goes forward to pursue his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
