The Tower of Babel is a famous story from the Old Testament’s Book of Genesis and in this video, Approximately 20 lines of text, it is still incredibly rich in meaning and historical context and I show how it illustrates the diminished nature of language in a post-literate society, and how, today we are in thrall to such overarching and controlling frameworks as the YouTube algorithm.
I provide an overview of the story’s modern relevance in preparation for a number of subsequent videos that explore a whole range of interpretations and aspects of the story.
