We’re installing the windows in our new house- let me show you how it’s done.
First, I use flex tape to make a waterproof pan at the bottom of the opening.
Next, I cut and fold up a section of house wrap at the top.
Then I run a bead of silicone around the perimeter.
These windows come with a nailing flange that needs to be folded out at a 90-degree angle.
I put shims underneath so I can adjust the window if it’s not sitting level.
Once I check that the bottom is level- I fasten it with screws.
I make sure the sides are plumb and then screw everything in place.
I like to use screws because there’s less chance of damaging the window with a hammer.
These flanges leave a small hole in the corners, so I cover it with a piece of metal.
I put the metal behind the flange at the bottom and in front of the flange at the top; then I hit it with some sealant.
Next, I install flashing tape on the right and left side and then a piece across the top.
Finally, I pull down the house wrap and seal it off with house wrap tape.
