LEAF MOLD vs WATERMELON- What do worms prefer?

In this video, I check in on an experimental worm bin I started six weeks ago using leaf mold only as bedding. Our leaf mold was started last fall, so it’s not fully processed, but the worms don’t seem to mind! The purpose of this experiment is to see what castings made from leaf mold look like and their performance as a soil amendment.

The transformation in this material over six weeks is remarkable. I began the bin with just two dozen worms and recently gave it some more worm power. I decide to give this bin an ample feeding with a giant slice of watermelon. However, I forget to add any ground eggshells as a buffer, so at the end of this video I show my return to the bin to rectify that situation and give the worms a special surprise.
