Why EcoBoost Mustang/Focus RS/Focus ST Head Gaskets Fail When Pushing The Limits

The cause for the failure in this scenario was due to detonation most likely caused by exhaust gas reversion which ultimately lead to the head lifting. Although this was an extreme case where the symptoms of detonation were left behind on the piston, we have also seen this same scenario occur where an engine detonated (due to high exhaust backpressure) lifting the head but showing no signs of detonation on the piston, even though we verified detonation occurred from sensor data analysis.
