This remix of Giles Martin's 2023 official remix of The Beatles' 1969 recording of "Old Brown Shoe" doesn’t claim to be superior, but it does showcase how this energetic song would sound with the vocals brought more forward. The Beatles recorded this during a period when they were experimenting with various unconventional recording techniques for vocals and instruments. It's believed that George Harrison recorded his lead vocal while singing into a corner with a lower-quality microphone. Whatever the method, it’s evident in the recording! The original vocal is distorted and has a quality reminiscent of a bathroom recording. I suspect this is why Giles Martin didn’t elevate the vocals, as doing so would have also amplified the distortion. While I’m not aware of any current technology that could fully correct this, there are ways to mitigate some of the issues. This is what I aimed to achieve in my remix.

The most noticeable change in my remix is the separation of the backing vocals into stereo, rather than having them locked with the lead vocal. No new elements have been added—it’s purely a de-mixing of the vocals and instruments, followed by a remixing of those elements. As always, thank you for listening!
