What is a Sixth Sense?

According to the dictionary definition, a sixth sense in humans is a power of perception seemingly independent of all of the other five senses, sight, smell, hearing, tasting, and touching. A secondary definition is that the sixth sense is intuitiveness, or possessing the ability of intuition.

It has also been said it’s like communing with God. The other terms associated with it are: ESP, psychokinesis, remote viewing, telekinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance and déjà vu, to mention a few.
Sixth Sense - The Door to the Temple of Wisdom

We need to preface this post by saying it’s important and completely necessary to master the previous principles or steps in Napoleon Hill’s book, “Think and Grow Rich”, before accepting this step dealing with the sixth sense.

Napoleon, nor do we, necessarily understand the principle of sixth sense but what we do know is that there is a power, an Intelligence, which permeates every atom of matter, and embraces every unit of energy perceptible to man.

This Infinite Intelligence converts acorns into oak trees, causes water to flow downhill in response to the law of gravity, follows night with day, winter with summer, each maintaining its proper place and relationship to the other.

Napoleon speaks of the importance of imitating successful people who have the qualities you wish to have. He then describes meeting with his imaginary council members in his mind.

He asks questions and states he wishes to learn certain traits from these exemplary scholars and leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, Darwin, Burbank, Emerson, Paine and Napoleon. He wanted traits of knowledge and faith, thought, courage, patience, cause and effect, justice, humor, tolerance, organized effort, persistence, poise, self confidence, and so on.

The purpose of these nightly meetings in his mind was to rebuild his own character though auto-suggestion. He goes into great depth of this imaginary meetings with his invisible council and then states that they became too realistic so got fearful and quit for several months only to be awakened by Abraham Lincoln at his bedside saying, “The world will soon need your services It is about to undergo a period of chaos which will cause men and women to lose faith, and become panic stricken. Go ahead with your work and complete your philosophy. That is your mission in life.” We know, it sounds crazy!

Napoleon wasn’t sure if it was a dream or not at the time, but decided to go ahead and commence with the meetings again in his mind, follow this sixth sense, and went on to add even more members such as Christ, St. Paul, Galileo, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and many many more consisting of over 50 men.

Although he knows these meetings are imaginary…they have led to glorious paths of adventure, rekindled an appreciation of true greatness, encouraged creative endeavor, and emboldened the expression of hones thought.

Intuition aka Sixth Sense…..

You see, somewhere in the cell-structure of the brain, is located an organ which receives vibrations of thought ordinarily called “hunches”. Human beings receive accurate knowledge through sources other than the physical senses. This knowledge is received when under the influence of extraordinary stimulation.

Nearly all the great leaders understood and made practical use of this sixth sense to guide them. Ability to use this great power comes slowly, through the other principles outlined in the book. The starting point of all achievement is desire.

The finishing point is that brand of knowledge which leads to understanding-understanding of self, understanding of others, understanding of the laws of Nature, recognition and understanding of happiness. Reading this chapter lifts you to a higher level of mental stimulation and it ROCKS! So we highly recommend you read it in it’s entirety.
