President Cyril Ramaphosa says he supports a suggestion made by president Thabo Mbeki that South Africans need "to convene a new and truly inclusive national dialogue about what needs to be done." Addressing the Black Business Council gala dinner earlier this week, Ramaphosa said SA's 30 years of democracy provides time for a sober reflection on the substantial challenges facing the country, and how to overcome them.

He mentioned high unemployment; the energy crisis; challenges in logistics; infrastructure; crime and corruption; the effects of poverty and underdevelopment; and a failing economy. It would be interesting to know what format a national dialogue would take, who should lead such conversations, and what the pertinent points of discussion would be.

Public Service Commission Chair, Professor Somadoda Fikeni joins us for this discussion.
