Flowers of Evil is an anime adaptation of Shuzo Oshimi's manga by the same name, which was inspired by 19th century French poet Charles Baudelaire's controversial series of poems "Les Fleurs du mal".

The anime, directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, has a very unique style in that it is rotoscoped using live action actors. Personally, it took me a second try to accept the visual departure from the anime stylings I was used to, but once I stuck with it: I found what is quite possibly my personal anime-of-the-decade. Between the atmosphere, the acting, the soundtrack, the overall aesthetic and the subject matter: the Flowers of Evil anime adaptation deserves to be held in high regard. Nagahama has done an absolute masterful job of both capturing the essence of the manga and adapting it for a single cour.

I conceptualized this AMV almost 4 years ago, started it over 2 years ago, and only recently "finished" it. I'm glad I finally got around to getting it cleaned-up, uploaded, and shared. The title of this AMV is a twist on the opening poem of Baudelaire's Les Fleures du mal: "To the Reader".

While I am a novice AMV creator, watching AMVs have brought me great joy and inspiration throughout the years. Cheers to all you AMV creators out there!
