How to teach a Quaker Parrot to target. In this video I demonstrate live on a green Quaker Parrot how to teach him to touch a target stick. This Monk Parakeet has never seen a target stick before and is learning to touch it during training for the first time.

My Quaker Parrot has been settling in nicely and in the span of his first week learned to take treats from my hand. I also introduced him to the clicker. Now that he is familiar with the clicker and taking treats from my hand through the cage bars, I am ready to introduce him to the target stick.

I have a Clicker, Target Stick, and treats in my hands in preparation for introducing the parrot to target.

First I lure him to the usual spot with just a treat so he comes over. Next time, I show him the target stick instead of a treat. Because he is used to taking treats in that spot, he bites on the clicker out of curiosity about what is being offered. When he touches the target stick, I click the clicker and give him a real treat instead.
