karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo ’stvakarmaṇi

Meanings:

karmaṇi—in action based on prescribed duties;

eva—only;

adhikāraḥ—right;

te—your;

mā—not;

phaleṣhu—in the results, consequences fruits;

kadāchana—at any time;

mā—never;

karma-phala—results of karma, i.e., activities;

hetuḥ—cause;

bhūḥ—be;

mā—not;

te—your;

saṅgaḥ—attachment;

astu—must be;

akarmaṇi—in inaction

In simple words,
Focus on the righteous task.
Don't be obsessed with results.
They will follow.
Don't be the cause of illegitimate results, i.e., don’t be guided by selfish motives (open or hidden).
Don't refuse to do your rightful task.

Take the example of Bhagwan Shree Krishna Himself.
Did He not Himself practice what He preached?
Did He not do His duty as a charioteer?
Once in the fight, did He bother about the results of the war?
Or was He bothered that, great men like Bhishma and Drona would be killed due to Him?
Was He guided by any selfish motive (hidden or open) when He became a charioteer?
Did He indulge in inaction?
Yet, did He not do everything only on the side of Dharma, i.e., righteousness?
You have your answer.
This is the practical meaning of the shloka.
