Locavore | Social Enterprise of the Year 2021

We are delighted to celebrate Locavore, winner of our 2021 Social Enterprise of the Year Award, with this short film.

Locavore is a social enterprise working to build sustainable food networks which are better for the environment, society, local communities and their economies.

Their local, organic and zero waste supermarkets in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Kirkintilloch offer organic produce grown on their market gardens and deliver vegetable boxes to 1,800 customers across central Scotland. Locavore also supplies progressive independent retailers across the UK with wholesale vegetables and flowers sourced directly from producers, or from their own gardens. They also help new producers get started and make food available to those most in need in society.

A Living Wage employer, Locavore has grown year on year and now employs around 130 people, with the aim to have ten branches open by 2023, thanks to their current turnover and successful funding efforts. They are a great example of how social enterprise can offer a successful alternative model that is based on fairness, environmental sustainability and community wealth building.
