The world's largest stand-alone refinery in the world, has added three new large silos for raw sugar with a capacity of 160,000 tons each. The new silos will add up to the existing storage capacity of one million tons reaching a total of approximately 1,500,000 tons of raw sugar storage. The decision to increase raw sugar storage is to create buffer stock that can be utilized to smooth out the price variations in imported raw sugar.
Based in Jebel Ali, near Dubai, Al Khaleej Sugar has current production capacity of around 6,000 tons of refined white sugar per day, employing about 800 personnel. The future plans revolve around increasing the capacity of the refinery to 7,000 tons per day to meet the growing global demand of refined sugar.
