Requiem for Solo Guitar - Full Concert

Requiem for Solo Guitar was premiered at Soul Space in Brisbane on June 1, 2024. The compositions for this concert included new works and improvisations developed over a 4 mother period inspired the by passing of the artists mother Janette Therese Garcia on February 6, 2024. (1938-2024)

The compositions featured in this program integrated notated material with freely improvised sections.

"During the final stages of my mothers life I would sit by her bedside and improvise. I wanted to make a final meaningful connection with her, ease her suffering and my own and express what I was feeling in those intimate moments. At times the music was light and playful at others with was poignant, brining tears to her eyes. After her passing I wanted to try and replicate in some way the experience for others who were dealing with emotions of grief for loved ones passed and explore through sound the concept of death and the transcendent."
