Just a week away from Christmas, a sudden Hyundai dealership closure in Seaside is leaving many employees without jobs — and without answers.

Employees showed up one last time on Monday, Dec. 15, to say goodbye to the place they called work and to pick up their final checks.

“It’s going to greatly affect me — it’s a week and a half before Christmas,” said former Hyundai employee Shannon Chambers.

Chambers worked at the dealership for almost three years and said she saw frequent management changes during her time there.

“With the last GM leaving within two months of getting here, it was really foreshadowing what was going to happen,” Chambers said. “It was something that was already anticipated. We had already lost the Chevy dealership, and a lot of our hours had already been cut.”

According to Chambers, employees did not receive much notice, nor were they offered transfers or compensation.

“It is what it is. There’s not a whole lot that can be done about it, and there’s not a whole lot of compassion behind it either,” Chambers said.
