Ephesus – Brief History
Ephesus is an ancient port city located in Selçuk, İzmir, with origins dating back to around 6000 BCE. The earliest traces of settlement were found at Çukuriçi Mound. Around 1050 BCE, Greek immigrants settled in the area, and in 560 BCE, the city was relocated near the Temple of Artemis. It was rebuilt in the 3rd century BCE by Lysimachus, a general of Alexander the Great.

During the Roman period, Ephesus became the capital of the Asian province and reached its peak. Iconic structures such as the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus, and the Great Theatre were built during this time. The city remained inhabited through Byzantine, Beylik, and Ottoman periods, but was eventually abandoned in the 15th century
