A progress update on the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) game mod called Sonic the Hedgehog: Sega Pico Edition.

This video showcases nearly finished menu background tilemaps and related special FX for each console platform supported by the game in the Options Menu.

Sega Genesis (modified Sonic 2 Options Menu, with modified animated art)
Sega Pico/Sonic 1 SMS (Sega Pico Sonic's Gameworld scrolling background and song)
Sega Mega Pico (Sonic X Leapfrog Didj/Eggman's Base background level tilemap)
Sega Pico/Sonic Genesis for SMS (Sonic Chaos Electric Egg Zone background, scrolling, and palette cycling)
Yamaha Mixtbook Copera (Sonic Battle/Emerl menu, scrolling background tilemap, foreground tilemap, and Emerl sprite)

Also some other features were added:
More SFX for the SSRG screen
Sonic SFX DAC for the Title Screen (Sonic CD "yeah" for Genesis, Sega Pico Sonic's Gameworld "Yay!" for all other platforms)
Sonic 1 Prototype Victory jump at end of levels (with SFX DAC)


All of the tilemap backgrounds, special FX, and Options menu functionality is implemented, other than further fleshing out the Copera menu. A bugfix needs added for proper highlighting of text tiles in the Copera menu too. The backgrounds for the Level Select menu need fixed, due to the Options menu background deform scrolling messing up the menu.

The Copera menu has special code, since it uses a BG tilemap, a FG tilemap, and a text layer for the options menu. This is achieved by the static text elements of the menu being baked into the FG layer, and tiles being copied from a duplicate tilemap decompressed in memory. The tile parameters are then changed during runtime and copied over to the Plane A tilemap nametable to do the text highlighting. More text labels (variable bit settings, MRPC labels, etc) will be added later as sprites and additional code to handle the updating of the settings display.
