IN THIS EPISODE...
We compare the best of the Echorec-emulating modern delay pedals with a genuine Binson Echorec, model PE603T c1969, ish. MASSIVE thanks to Tony at Sound Gas for loaning us the Echorec and Echosex. https://soundgas.com

The Echorec was an analogue magnetic drum echo unit (as opposed to tape), made by Italian company, Binson. There were a number of (very) different models from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, made most famous by both Hank Marvin and of course Pink Floyd.

The Echorec (and indeed each of the other pedals), is running in one of TheGigRig G2’s loops, straight into the front of the amps.

A NOTE ON BACKGROUND NOISE: At around 3:18 we switch on the Echorec for the first time. You’ll notice lots of background noise, that then disappears when we play. This is because our voice microphone (placed just above our heads) is set to a very loud level, with added compression that makes the background noise seem much worse than it is.
When we are playing however, the voice mic is muted (it would go into massive distortion if hit with the guitar amps), so when we are playing you are only hearing the mics on the guitar cabs and the stereo X-Y in the room. There is no noise reduction or other jiggery pokery going on anywhere.

Right, let’s get to it…
