As we are approaching World Hepatitis day on the 28th of July, Dr. Vineet Kumar Pathak shares some important information on Hepatitis. He talks about the types of Hepatitis and what causes hepatitis in the first place. Further in the video, you’ll learn about symptoms, diagnosis, and tips to prevent hepatitis.

Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. The liver is a vital organ that processes nutrients, filters the blood, and fights infections. Heavy alcohol use, toxins, some medications, and certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis. Several different viruses cause hepatitis, including hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.

The hepatitis A and E viruses typically cause acute infections. The hepatitis B, C, and D viruses can cause acute and chronic infections.

Some types will pass without any serious problems, while others can be long-lasting (chronic) and cause scarring of the liver (cirrhosis), loss of liver function, and, in some cases, liver cancer.

Some hepatitis cases have no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they can include yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and fever.
