Vinylvine - Curating from the ancestral plane

Often, we find stories so compelling to tell, or at least give more people a peek through the keyhole, hoping what they see or hear will inspire. I produced, filmed, and edited this experimental two-part documentation of the Vinyl Deejay and music production crew from Soweto and Orange Farm in the year 2021. I hope you find it worth watching.

Who are they?
A soundscape that transcends into the spiritual, abstract and psychedelic
- it’s an orchestra in development, which in some settings includes
live instrumentation and live beats. VinylVine was born in 2018, a manifestation of the urban African experience that is rooted in the ancestral soils deeply and exctracts
nourishment which gives the transcedental demeanour to their
curatorial finesse. Jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, disco, Dub, LoFi, DnB and music with no
genre are some of the sonic ingredients the Duo can use to prepare
something that’ll move your soul.VinylVine influences range from Kippie Moeketsi to Oneness of Juju to George Clinton, Roy Ayers, Chic, Philip Tabane, Kool and the
Gang, A Tribe Called Quest right down to the latest German sounds of Flofilz and 12Vince.
