The Dharmasthala burial issue has once again stirred political tensions in Karnataka, with Congress leaders staging a protest against the BJP. The Congress accused the BJP of politicising the matter, turning a sensitive local issue into a political agenda, and adding a religious color to it. Party leaders claimed that the ongoing debate over the alleged mass burial case at Dharmasthala is being exploited to create communal polarization in the state.

The BJP, on the other hand, has called for a massive ‘Dharmasthala Chalo, Namma Nadige Dharmasthaladedege’ rally today to protest what it terms “false allegations” against Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala. Senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers Prahlad Joshi and Shobha Karandlaje, along with state president B.Y. Vijayendra, are expected to lead the mobilisation.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly opposed the BJP’s demand for handing over the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), calling it unnecessary. The CM emphasised that the investigation is already underway and that politicising the matter is not in the interest of law and order.

The issue has highlighted the growing divide between the two major political parties in Karnataka, with Congress accusing BJP of communalising a local matter, while the BJP maintains that it is defending the reputation of a revered religious institution.
