Parking for December Nights is $40 close to Balboa Park or FREE at the Zoo (Park at the Zoo, Its a 5 min walk)
(And get here a few hours early to avoid the ridiculous traffic. I got here at 1pm and it took 10 min. to get in and find parking. When I left around 6 or 7pm the line to get into the Zoo parking was backed up to THE FREEWAY a few miles and a few hundred cars away. Easily would have taken 30 min to an hour to just get to the parking lot at that point)
