GOVT ALLOCATES RS 6000 CRORE TO BHARATNET PROGRAMME TO BOOST LAST MILE CONNECTIVITY


Hon’ Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget 2020 proposed to allocate Rs 6000 crore to government’s ambitious BharatNet programme which aims to provide on demand, affordable broadband connectivity to all households and institutions with internet speeds of at least 2 megabytes per second.
Hon’ Finance Minister said, “Our vision is that all “public institutions” at gram panchayat level such as Anganwadis, health and wellness centres, government schools, PDS outlets, post offices and police stations will be provided with digital connectivity. Fibre to the Home (FTTH) connections through Bharatnet will link 100,000 gram panchayats this year.”

CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd initiated its Wi-Fi initiative in April, 2016 by integrating it with BharatNet end-points at Gram Panchayats (GP) and extending it over a Wi-Fi Network covering all the inhabited areas of the village to create a very powerful service delivery platform.

CSC e-Governance Services India Limited has been granted Unified Licence vide No. DS-11/105/2016-DS-III dated 29th March, 2016 for providing WiFi services. Last mile connectivity is still a challenge at rural and inaccessible areas of the country. An uninterrupted high speed and stable broadband connectivity plays the most significant role for enabling delivery of voluminous eServices in a timely manner through CSCs and thereby making them sustainable
