The Hyundai IONIQ was introduced in 2016. The car will be available with 3 different drivetrains: 100% electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. In Europe, the hybrid version was launched in Q4 of 2016. The Electric was launched in Q1 2017. The plug-in hybrid will come by the summer of 2017.

We drove the electric Hyundai IONIQ which has a 28 kWh battery and an official NEDC-range of 280 km. Although the battery capacity is rather limited compared to the competition (BMW i3: 33 kWh, Nissan LEAF: 30 kWh, Renault ZOE: 40 kWh), we were surprised by the realistic range you can get out of this car. 180 km to 220 km is possible without too many sacrificies. The reason the car can drive that far with the 28 kWh battery is that the drivetrain is very efficiënt. With normal driving (highway at 120 km/h, country roads and city driving mixed) we had an average consumption of 14 kWh / 100 km. The outside temperature was on average 10° C and we used the heating in the seats and the steering wheel most of the time.

The car comes standard with a lot of equipment and technology, for instance Lane Keeping Assist (LKA). LKA is not the same as Autosteer from Tesla, but it feels Autosteer-ish. The system keeps the car between the lines on the road and it can function without hands on the wheel for about 3 seconds. We test LKA around 4:09 in this video.
