THE HUNT FOR RED VICTORIANS - Deck Review

The red High Victorians are currently available at your local Target stores.

The High Victorians are printed by the USPC. The deck was designed for Theory 11 by Ye Olde Studio in the United Kingdom. The tuck case is gorgeous with gold foil embossing throughout. The back has architectural flourishes with statues standing in columns and a center design that feels like you are looking straight up at a cathedral ceiling.

The design of the card backs is intricate and ornate and feature a wood cut vibe. The entire deck is completely custom other than the the two standard theory 11 ad cards. There are two jokers, one in each color.

This is very much a typographer’s deck. Although there are flashes of architectural design, the strongest influence is clearly designer Joe White’s penchant for label making. The Aces are perhaps the best cards in the deck and really benefit most from the typographical design style.

In terms of feel, the cards handle great and my very limited cardistry skills don’t do them justice.
