Billy from Bruff is from Open the Door for Three's 2024 release, 'A Prosperous Gale', our fourth studio album together. Filmed in Portland, Maine, Billy from Bruff features Liz Knowles on fiddle, and Kieran O'Hare on uilleann pipes and flute, and Pat Broaders on bouzouki.

From the liner notes of 'A Prosperous Gale':
We learned the first jig off an Instagram
clip of Sligo flute players Michael Hurley and
Paddy Healy, himself the source of this superior
setting of The Geese in the Bog. Liz excavated
Billy from Bruff from the Joyce collection.
Collected in 1849, it seems to be an earthier
and more tastefully crafted ancestor of the jig
‘Knocknagow’. A video NPU made of Mick O’Brien
is our source for Packie Russell’s. His brother
Micho called it ‘Come Into Town, My Fair Lady’.

Video and video editing by Dylan Ladds.
Audio recorded and mixed by Jason Phelps at Acadia Recording Company, Portland Maine.
Mastered by Pat Keane.

Open the Door for Three is a road-tested, audience-approved, laughing-out-loud trio of Irish musicians, including fiddle player Liz Knowles, uilleann piper Kieran O’Hare, and Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player Pat Broaders. Their music is a rare combination of unearthed tunes from centuries-old collections, newly composed melodies, fresh arrangements of songs old and new, homages to the musicians and bands they grew up listening to, and the unmatched energy of a trio of good friends playing great Irish music together.
