The Ballad of the Black Swan

The Black swan is a large Australian waterbird. A Black Swan has the longest neck, relative to its size of all swan species.

Black swans are monogamous and often have the same mate for life. Their nests are made from sticks, debris, and dead leaves which they use to create a mound floating on the water. Black Swan young are called cygnets.The cygnets can swim and feed soon after hatching. They fledge between 150 to 170 days old. Black swans feed on vegetation both in the water or in pastures.
