Today I'm painting a loose landscape using a limited palette, Paynes grey and raw and burnt sienna. The idea is to try to paint quickly and spontaneously, letting the wet in wet process dictate the scene, influencing it simply through gravity, water control, paint application and leaving some unpainted paper to keep it fresh.
I'm using Saunders Waterford 100% cotton cold pressed 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape and is at an angle of about 45 degrees so gravity will help me paint. I prepared various brushes that I might want to use, but in the end, I only used one, a Pro Arte Ron Ranson large hake brush, a 3/4" synthetic flat, but use whichever brushes you have.
