3 Ways To Remove The WordPress Comment Box | WP Learning Lab

There are a handful of ways to remove the WordPress comment box. In this tutorial I'm going to show you three of them.

The first way to remove comments applies only to Posts (not pages) that are created AFTER you make this change. Log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Settings and click on Discussion.

The third option on that page is "Allow people to post comments on new articles". Uncheck that option and click on Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

When that change is made, your existing posts will still have a comment box. All posts created after you save that change will not have a comment box.

The second way to remove comments is individually on a post-by-post or a page-by-page basis.

Open a post or page that you want to remove comments from. Click on Screen Options in the top left (Screen Options tutorial:    • WordPress Screen Options - Change What's D...  ). Make sure that the Discussion option is selected in the Screen Options.

Then scroll down the page and find the Discussion Metabox. Uncheck "Allow comments" and update the page or post. The comment box will be removed.

You can also remove the comment box from multiple pages or posts by going to the pages or posts list and selection multiple (or all) pages and posts. Then select Edit from the Bulk Actions dropdown and click Apply.

In the box that opens you will see a Comments dropdown. Choose Do Not Allow from the dropdown and click update. Now the Leave A Reply box will be removed from all of those pages or posts.

That is how to remove leave a reply on multiple pages.

The last option I go over is how to turn comments off in the template files. To do this however over Appearance and click on Editor. Find the Single.php and Page.php files. In those files you will find "comments_template( '', true );". Add two forward slashes before that line to comment it out:

// comments_template( '', true );

PHP will now ignore that line and not show the comment box in that template. The drawback of this method is that when the theme files are updated you will have add the forward slashes again.
