After general medical services transferred to the newly-opened St John's Hospital in nearby Livingston, Bangour General Hospital closed in 1991. The Village Hospital also started to wind down after the opening of St Johns with the last remaining ward closing in 2004.

20 years on from the final ward closing we can see part of the land is being prepared to build new homes so no access but there is a large part that you can still walk around and view what's left of the village. Buildings are sealed off, security are on site and there's fences and cameras around the buildings so no access unfortunately.
