Shaperbox by Cableguys is a quite important tool for me, but to use it effectively in Ableton Live you actually often need a Midi trigger. For me the main reason to set up a midi trigger are the huge delay compensation issues that Ableton Live has. The moment you load a latency heavy plugin before shaperbox the timing will be completely off. Other reasons for a Midi-trigger would be that you are woking with a non 4 to the floor kick pattern and need to trigger shaperbox in a specific way that matches your kick.

One of the reasons it took me a while to set up is the fact, that I have a default midi track set up in Live which automatically loads some Audio Effects into my Midi tracks. I found out that in order to properly use shaperbox with a midi trigger in ableton you have to use a completely empty midi track.

The next issue I had was that whenever I stoped my midi triggers the shaperbox gain reduction drops to the middle some how and reduces the volume of the track instead of leaving all of it through. this is because when you stop the trigger shaperbox jumps to the beginning of your waveshape and the default waveshapes dont start at 0 but around -8db. This can either be solved by adjusting the waveshape or using the midi switch function as explained in the video.

Lastly I it felt a bit annoying that you have to create a single midi trigger track for each instance of shaperbox you use. But there is also a solution for this problem. You can set up a midi track with an external instrument which you can find in the ableton instruments section. If you group the external instrument to an instrument rack can can duplicate the chain as many times you want to and send it to as many instances as you want from just this one midi track.
