But research shows that's affecting how some couples parent.A new study suggests that some parents could be missing out on crucial opportunities to hang out with their children because they're too busy swiping and Facebooking.Boston Medical Center surveyed 55 caregivers interacting with young children while they were eating at a fast food restaurant. Some of the adults were absorbed in their devices, ignoring the kids.Experts say face-to-face conversations are crucial to kids' development of language and social skills.How to take turns in a conversation and build those sorts of social skills, how to build empathy, you need to be take someone else's perspective, watch their facial reactions, said Jenny Radesky, M.D. Boston Medical Center.Researchers do say that this study isn't meant to give an overall idea of the parent-child relationship. But it's a good reminder for even the most well-intentioned moms and dads to turn off their phones and tune in to their kids.When the adults were otherwise engaged in their mobile devices, kids either entertained themselves or acted up to get attention.
