Hey everyone! In this video, I'm going to talk about how to grow Christmas Cactus in a warm tropical climate.
Christmas cactus loves to grow in a mild wet climate where the temperature does not exceed 30 degrees Celcius, also they prefer high humidity. They do not thrive in a hot and humid climate so you have to be very careful during the hot summer days.
Christmas cactus thrives in dappled conditions with two to three hours of direct morning light.
They prefer well-drained soil orchid mix with a handful of compost would be a perfect medium for Christmas cactus. You can also make your own media using 50% perlite/river sand, 20% compost 20% cocopeat & 10% small pieces of charcoal.
Do not water them too much or you will end up with root rot! Misting is essential for this plant but make sure the water does not go down at the bottom of the plant, a good misting machine will solve this issue. Make sure the misting water should evaporate from the leaves.
Be aware of the Mealybugs. Check the plant often, especially at the bottom of the leaves and the base of the plant.
Use a mild fungicide to combat fungal issues and also do the same for the pest as well.
A little bit of pruning in the early or mid-autumn is fine, do prune too much.
