Work has finally started on the Glounthaune - Midleton Double track project.
The contract was awarded by Irish Rail to BAM Ireland.
The project will see the line upgraded to 100% double track , up from its already 35% existing double track. This will add 10 Kms of track to line.
Other works planned are new crossovers at Midleton and new switchback sidings , crossovers at Carrigtwohill and Glounthaune , bridge extensions and modifications , signal upgrades , removal of a existing level crossing and widening of another , Civil works and boundary walls etc.
