A new 500mm lens for £120? Opteka 500mm f6.3 mirror lens review.

Using mirrors to increase the range of lenses has been around for several centuries, during the last century the principle was applied to camera lenses.

Back in the late 60s,70s and early 80s many camera and lens manufacturers produced their own versions including respected manufacturers like Nikon, Minolta, Tamron, Zeiss and Sigma. Sony still produces the 600mm Minolta monster mirror lens at a whopping $12,995 US.

These days most mirror lenses available are likely to be one of the Chinese brands like Opteka, Samyang, Bower or Rokinon, and often the same lens with different branding and packaging.

Very affordable they offer the enthusiast a much greater range than with a kit lens but is it all plain sailing? Watch the video and I show you the Pros and Cons of this oddball lens.
