Construction and Maiden Voyage of Clipper Ship named Sea Serpent

Описание к видео Construction and Maiden Voyage of Clipper Ship named Sea Serpent

This is a Video Tribute to George Raynes, a builder of clipper ships, and the story of the construction and maiden voyage of the Sea Serpent that transported gold miners to California in 1851. The Sea Serpent was one of the longest lived chipper ships with a service life of 36 years and 5 months.

The thumbnail, of course, is Ship Building by Winslow Homer that appeared in Harper Weekly in 1873.

This video traces the rise of an American woodworking industry that involved thousands of towns and craftsmen creating fast sailing ships that created the trade that made America.
