Islamic political thought is a tradition of conceptualizing human affairs that originates with the Prophet Muhammad (570–632 ce) in seventh‐century Arabia. In his lifetime Muhammad recited the Qur'an and established a precedent (sunna) that Muslims ever since have taken as a guide for how to establish a just community.
Al-Farabi argued that the ideal state was the city-state of Medina when it was governed by the prophet Muhammad as its head of state, as he was in direct communion with Allah whose law was revealed to him.
Ghazali policy is a policy that is based on the law and jurisprudence. Political thought of Imam Mohammad Ghazali has a close relationship with political, intellectual and social time is his own. According to him, the goal of policy, human happiness in this world and the Hereafter aspect.
Ibn Khaldun is integral to Islamic political thought by way of his theories on reforming society. Khaldun's conclusion was that societal reform was integral within the Islamic world, and that it could be achieved personally or through advising a prince in power on ruling with wisdom.
Shah Wali Ullah realised the political rise of non-Muslims like Maratha, Jat and Sikh powers and the fading glory of Islamic rule as danger to Islam and therefore, any loss of political heritage of Muslim was unbearable to him.
