Jeff Lynne's ELO “Believe Me Now”, "Steppin' Out" at Madison Square Garden on 16th September 2024

The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterised by a fusion of pop and classical arrangements with futuristic iconography. After Wood's departure in 1972, Lynne became the band's sole leader, arranging and producing every album while writing nearly all of their original material. From this point until their first break-up in 1986, Lynne and Bevan were the group's only consistent members. [Wikipedia]

The last time I saw ELO, Jeff Lynne made the whole event seem so effortless. This time he wisely enlisted the help of some other folks to keep the show moving along apace. The string section delivered as did the vocal support (Iain Hornal took care of the high notes). They put on a terrific show and a fitting farewell to cap a 50 year career in rock'n'roll. I was a little emotional because ELO has been a constant companion through the trials and tribulations of the last several decades. So many bangers and such a valued part of the soundtrack to my life.
